New Delhi: Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi has launched a membership drive on his official website asking people, in particular the youth, to connect with him on his Facebook and Google plus accounts. “The people of India can take this nation to greater heights and make it the leading nation of the world...the people, particularly the youth should devote their time, skills and energy towards the nation,” said the introduction of the “movement” which aims at creating “a strong, glorious and inclusive India”. Each person who signs up is being asked his area of interest and qualifications, and a personal acknowledgement is also being issued. Modi’s message on the website narendramodi.in said: “I want to be an agent of change for Ek Bharat, Shresht Bharat.”
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala’s Finance Minister K M Mani yesterday said that there was no need to be pessimistic over BJP leader Narendra Modi becoming India’s next prime minister. “A strong centre is good for states and we in Kerala need not be pessimistic because Modi is becoming the prime minister,” said Mani, who is also the head of the Kerala Congress (Mani) and the third biggest ally of the ruling Congress-led United Democratic Front. Mani, who has been a legislator since 1967, said that the state would wait and see. The Bharatiya Janata Party failed to win any seat in the state in the Lok Sabha election. All eyes will be on Modi to see if he appoints any BJP leader from Kerala in his cabinet. In the outgoing government, Kerala had a record two cabinet and six state ministers.
Sign language at ceremony
New Delhi: Around 18 million deaf Indian citizens will be able to follow all details of Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony tomorrow with sign language interpretation facilities. Three sign language interpreters would be at duty to ensure that the oath-taking and other ceremonies of prime minister-designate Modi are made available to deaf citizens of India, the Disabled Rights Group (DRG) said.
