Islamabad: The President of Pakistan, Mamnoon Hussain, said on Wednesday that Pakistan stands firmly committed to peace at regional and international levels and will continue to support all efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the world, according to media reports.
The president, addressing the inaugural session of ‘International Seminar on Peace and Conflict Resolution’ in Islamabad, said Pakistan has always been at the forefront in complementing the efforts of United Nations for peace and has actively been engaged in various peace missions. The President said that the international community and the world leaders including UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon had duly acknowledged Pakistan’s commitment to international peace.
He recalled that Pakistan has been contributing soldiers, policemen and civilians for peacekeeping in 41 countries over the last 53 years. He informed that about 11,000 Pakistani peacekeepers were engaged side by side with the international peacekeeping forces in various countries.
Two cops shot dead in Karachi
Islamabad: Unknown gunmen shot dead two policemen in Sindh Industrial Trading Estate area in Karachi on late Wednesday night, Pakistan’s Geo News reported.
Senior superintendent of police Irfan Baloch said an assailant was also killed as the police returned fire.
He said that the policemen fell prey to targeted killing.
The officer said that identity of the deceased attacker was yet to be ascertained.
Sharif to visit United Kingdom
Islamabad: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will start his three-day visit to the United Kingdom from Monday.
During the visit, Pakistan’s Prime Minister will represent Pakistan at the 9th World Islamic Economic Forum that will take place in the British capital on Oct 29, according to (Radio Pakistan).
Later the Pakistani Prime Minister will visit each of Sri Lanka and Thailand in the next four weeks. Agencies
