Expat workers urged to respect local customs

Doha: In a lecture organised by the Qatar Foundation for Protection and Social Rehabilitation (QFPSR) recently, migrant workers were urged to respect local customs and traditions, especially in public.
Addressing a large gathering at the Labour Health Centre in the Industrial Area, Khalid Fakhro, a humanitarian worker and senior donor’s relation officer at Qatar Charity, said that the Qatari traditions needed to be respected by everyone.
The lecture titled ‘Migrant workers and the Qatari social customs and traditions’ addressed workers in the corporate and private sector, and aimed at raising awareness about, and introducing the Qatari social customs and traditions to worker who came from different countries and cultures. 
Fakhro appreciated migrant workers for playing a key role in the achieving the Qatar Vision 2030 and said that Qatari laws and regulations protect as well as respect the rights of every human being, whether a Qatari or not.
Speaking about local traditions, Fakhro said that the Qatari society was conservative, and asked migrant workers to comply with the public order and ethics. He told attendees that breaking public code of conduct, especially at malls, markets and various other public places, could cause annoyance and that it was considered as a violation of social principles.
