Two govt workers die in sea mishap

MANILA: Two employees of the Department of Education (DepEd) died while 55 other passengers and nine crew members survived after the motorboat they were riding on sank off Romblon yesterday afternoon, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said.

PCG said that the boat “MB El Padre” was on its way to Romblon, Romblon from Semara Island when the mishap occurred off Puyo, Calatrava Island at around 12:10pm yesterday.

The PCG said that all the passengers and the crew members were rescued by Coast Guard personnel at about 2:30pm.

However, the agency said, two of the passengers, identified as 66-year-old Eve Fajutag, a DepEd Romblon superintendent, and 55-year-old Grace Mallorca, a DepEd employee, died in the hospital when they were receiving treatment. The other survivors were in good condition and went home.

PCG were still verifying the report that certain Ana Adarlo, also a DepEd employee, was missing, the agency said. It is also investigating the cause of the accident.
