DOHA: The Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) yesterday announced the delivery of housing units for 1,746 people in Pakistan hit by recent floods.
The houses in the villages of Fuladyon and Balochabad in Mirpur Khas in Sindh province were handed over to the beneficiaries in the presence of Nayef Al Mohannadi, QRC’s Chief of Administrative Service, members of QRC office in Pakistan and several NGOs and international organisations.
The project worth more than $1m benefits around 252 families that lost their homes in the floods. Each house consists of a room, kitchen and balcony.
The project was implemented by two local NGOs — the Tameer-Khaliq Foundation (TKF) that built 126 homes; and the Sustainable Development Initiative (SDI) that built the rest of the homes.
QRC’s Secretary General Saleh bin Ali Al Mohannadi said: “This project is one of the most important initiatives carried out by QRC in Pakistan and today we celebrate the completion of the project to improve the living conditions of vulnerable families.”
QRC is also implementing a major water project involving the establishment of many water systems, hand pumps and bathrooms in the Swat province, and rehabilitation and maintenance of operations unit at the Central Hospital in Mingora. The project will benefit more than 1m people in Malakand.
