Doha, Qatar: The newly launched ID Card for Tutors initiative seeks to ensure the quality of tutoring services, confirm teachers’ legal and professional status, and enhance trust and safety for parents through clear accreditation, subject specialisation, and unified regulatory standards, said an official.
As part of its ongoing efforts to regulate the educational support sector and enhance the quality of learning services, the Ministry of Education and Higher Education recently announced the issuance of the first official identification card for tutors providing remedial and support lessons.
The initiative was outlined by Iman Al-Nuaimi, Director of the Educational Services Centers Department at the Ministry, as a key step in supporting the educational process in schools and ensuring a safe and well-regulated learning environment.
Speaking to Al Rayyan TV recently, Al-Nuaimi explained that the newly launched ID card serves as an official document confirming the accreditation of teachers working in licensed tutoring and educational service centres.
These centres play a complementary role to public schools by providing structured academic support aligned with the national education system.
Addressing questions on the scope of the card, she clarified that the initiative is not limited solely to teachers currently working within tutoring centres.
Any tutor wishing to provide lessons in a legal and regulated manner, including those who previously offered home-based tutoring independently, is now required to obtain this official card. To do so, the tutor must be affiliated with one of the licensed educational centres and complete the required procedures and documentation.
She stressed that, following the adoption of this system, families are expected not to receive or engage any tutor who does not hold the official ID card.
This measure aims to strengthen cooperation between parents, educational centres, tutors, and the Ministry, ensuring transparency and accountability across the sector.
One of the key benefits of the ID card, according to Al-Nuaimi, is safeguarding the quality of educational services.
The card clearly specifies the tutor’s academic specialisation, addressing the common issue of unverified advertisements on social media claiming that a single teacher can cover all subjects.
“There is no such thing as a teacher for all subjects,” she noted, emphasising that the card helps parents identify qualified specialists for each subject.
In addition, the card provides parents with a sense of security and reassurance, as it confirms that the tutor is officially approved by the Ministry and legally present in Qatar. This step helps curb irregular practices, such as unlicensed tutors offering lessons in private venues without oversight.
Al-Nuaimi highlighted that the Ministry has set clear regulations to protect all parties involved, from defining approved fees to ensuring the legal status of tutors.
Tutors affiliated with licensed centres may teach students either at the centre itself or, if parents prefer, provide lessons at students’ homes, under full official supervision.
She called on parents to take a firm stance in supporting this initiative by dealing only with accredited centres and tutors holding the official ID card, underscoring that this collective effort will enhance trust, stability, and the overall quality of educational support services in the country.
The ID cards for tutors is part of series of initiatives taken by the ministry to enhance the education quality.
