MANILA: Three Japanese nationals were held at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) yesterday for entering the country with P45m ($1m).
Airport authorities identified the Japanese nationals as Suzuki Yuzon, Takahashi Koichi and Terashima Seita.
The NAIA media affairs division said that the three Japanese nationals arrived at the airport at 9:34pm Thursday via Japan Airlines flight 745 from Narita.
Upon inspection of their belongings, customs examiners noticed that they were carrying paper bags full of cash.
Authorities said that found from the Japanese nationals were P45,320,000 worth of Yen and US dollars and P1.5m worth of casino chips marked “Resorts World.”
Rebels torch equipment
LEGAZPI CITY: Eight suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels torched three pieces of construction equipment in San Fernando town, Masbate on Wednesday night, authorities said.
Superintendent Heriberto Olitoquit, Masbate police director, said armed men swooped down on the construction site in Barangay Buenavista, 10 kilometres away from the town proper, at around 7pm Wednesday and set on fire a road roller, a grader and a loader reportedly owned by engineer Alejandro Lim Jr.
Last August 22, suspected guerrillas also torched construction equipment in Pio Duran, Albay.
Whale with bullet hole
PASUQUIN: A pygmy killer whale bearing a deep bullet wound was washed ashore in a coastal village here, authorities said.
Arthur Valente, fishery regulation officer of the provincial agriculture office, said the pygmy killer whale, measuring 2.26 metres, was given antibiotic treatment by the provincial veterinary office and was subsequently returned to the sea.
