Mystery behind DCC renaming
ISLAMABAD: The government of Pakistan has so far not explained what necessitated changing the name of the Defence Committee of the Cabinet (DCC) on August 22. Since the renaming of the DCC as the Cabinet Committee on National Security (CCNS), opposition members in parliament have been asking the government to explain how the new CCNS will serve the cause of national security.
Even on Monday, opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Shah demanded that the government should brief the house on the reconstitution of the DCC.
But there was no satisfactory response. However, defence analyst Dr Hassan Askari Rizvi said “by reconstituting the DCC Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has tried to allay the old concern of the army leadership.”
