DOHA: Celebrated Islamic cleric Dr Yusuf Al Qaradawi yesterday condemned the Syrian President, Bashar Al Assad, for using chemical weapons and killing large numbers of innocent people in his country. “I am praying to God,” said the scholar in his Friday sermon in a tacit support for action against the Syrian regime, “to take revenge for this act of cowardice from Al Assad and his military”.
DOHA: Eminent Muslim cleric, Dr Yusuf Al Qaradawi (pictured), yesterday said ousting Mohammed Mursi as Egypt’s elected president was a conspiracy and blasted some Arab countries for supporting the Egyptian military.
Addressing a large congregation of the devout during his Friday sermon, the scholar claimed that some people did not want Egyptians and the Arabs to be ‘free’.
“There are some Arab countries that want Egypt to return to the (Hosni) Mubarak-era, and they are supporting the Egyptian military, which wants to subjugate the Egyptian people.” He said that the $13bn aid that some Arab countries gave to the Egyptian military would never benefit the Egyptian people. “The military claims that a majority of Egyptians are supporting them but Mursi became the president through a majority vote.”
He accused the military for not taking any action against Mubarak, who had ‘humiliated’ the Egyptian people for 30 years and said the military was responsible for releasing Mubarak under their watch. He said Mursi had made some mistakes, which including ‘not revealing the secrets of the people around him’ when he was in the government because he feared that it will be ‘scandalous’ for Egypt.
While describing the people ruling Egypt now as ‘liars’ and ‘unjust’, he lashed out against Mohammed ElBaradei for resigning after the military had hurt the Egyptian people and children.
“They killed innocent people in Rabaa Al Adawiya, Maidan Al Nahda, and in front of the Republican Guards Club.” He said he challenges everyone to come up with any proof or photograph of a single person (from among the supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood) in these grounds with a gun or any other kind of weapon. He praised the achievements of Egyptian Revolution, which was responsible for electing a free parliament and the first legitimate president and a great constitution.
He said that the Arab revolution that started from Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and Yemen and finally in Syria, it was for taking back freedom and recover lost human rights. He said that many Arabs started the Arab revolution because they wanted to live a free and independent life.
Referring to the army commander (Abdul Fattah) Al Sisi, was the Minister of Defence, who was appointed by Mursi. “Who gave him the right to take out Mursi.”
He said that Muslims are not permitted to rebel against a legitimate ruler, unless he orders the people to commit sin. Mohammed Badie, the supreme leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, said that their revolution was peaceful and will continue peacefully
Al Qaradawi called on Egyptian men and women to rebel against the current government and that this was ‘compulsory’ to do for all Egyptian Muslims. He said that the World Union of Muslim Scholars also believed in the same. Egyptians should live and die ‘honestly’ without being ‘submissive’. He advocated to not respond to the scholars of the government. He also condemned the Syrian regime.
