Doha: The summer vacation of 2021 was full of awards and recognition for Qatar University College of Pharmacy (QU-CPH) students. Two major events took place in which the QU-CPH students were able to scoop awards.

The first event that took place was the International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation-Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office (IPSF-EMRO) Eastern Mediterranean Pharmaceutical Symposium 2021 (EMPS), which was held online by Alexandria Scientific Pharmaceutical Student’s Association (ASPSA) from July 7 to 10, 2021.

A total of 14 countries and 20 member organizations participated in this event.

The Symposium included several sessions, workshops, and teaching events. A total of 7 teams participated in this event, where each team was given a different case, and had an opportunity to show their patient-counseling skills.

Fourth professional-year pharmacy students Taimaa Hejazi and Dana Mustafa were part of the team awarded first place in the patient counselling event.

Taimaa commented: “Participating in the patient counseling competition in the EMPS and winning the first place was one of the best experiences ever. I and my colleague Dana were really honored to be the ones representing QPhUS-Qatar. We combined the skills that we gained during our study in CPH to solve the case and presented it as a patient-pharmacist interaction.”

The second event that took place was the 66th IPSF World Congress 2021, which was held in Seoul, Republic of Korea, and was hosted by Korean National Association for Pharmaceutical students (KNAPS) from July 27 until August 5 2021.

The Congress hosted more than 600 pharmacy students and recent graduates from 90 countries worldwide.

The main theme of the conference was Transforming Pharmacists’ Roles: Improving Quality of Life through Healthcare innovation.

There were several educational events held under different portfolios.

These included Patient Counselling Event (Junior and Senior) Category and Clinical Skills Event (CSE).

Fourth professional year pharmacy student and winner of the patient counseling event Junior Category, Fatima Nazar said, “Competing against pharmacy students from different countries in the patient event-Junior was a challenging task and I was honored to score the first position in the event. I would like to thank IPSF and the World Congress Committee for allowing me to nurture my patient counseling skills in order to be a competent pharmacist. This was only possible because of the teachings of the College of Pharmacy. Whatever I am today, whoever I am, I owe it to my professors at the College who are always there to lend a hand.”
