NEW YORK: The State of Qatar has confirmed that Israel still continues its repressive practices and discriminatory policies, which seriously harm the various Palestinian social and economic sectors and natural and environment resources.

Qatar stressed that the persistence of Israeli settlement expansion is one of the most important factors, that exacerbates the humanitarian crisis in the occupied Palestinian territory.

As it leads to deprive Palestinians of essential means of livelihood, such as water and basic social services.

This came in Qatar's statement made last night by HE member of Qatar's delegation to the UN General Assembly session in New York Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

Before the UN Economic and Financial Committee (Second Committee) on the item of the permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

Including East Jerusalem, and of the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan over their natural resources.

HE said that the illegitimate policies pursued by Israel against the Palestinian people deprive them of their fundamental rights and their territory's natural resources.

As well as the right to own property because of the confiscation and destruction of their lands and the deprivation of access to water resources for agriculture needs.

The State of Qatar considered that all these practices are illegal, inhumane and a violation of the international humanitarian law and stressed that Israel's non-implementation of the General Assembly and the Security Council's resolutions damages the credibility and effectiveness of the United Nations.

Noting that the Second South Summit in Doha had emphasized on the respect of the principles and purposes of the UN Charter and the International Law.

So Israel should immediately stop these violations and breaches.

The State of Qatar called on Israel to comply with the international resolutions, particularly the Security Council resolution 497, which ruled that the Israeli decision to impose its laws, jurisdiction and administration in the Occupied Syrian Golan Heights is null and void and without international legal effect, stressing the need to open Gaza border crossings to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aids and Israel's compliance in this regard as it was called for by the Economic and Social Council in its last resolution on economic and social repercussions of the Israeli occupation on the living conditions of the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian territories.

HE Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, member of Qatar's delegation to the 68th session of the UN General Assembly, said that it is a shame in the light of all of what is stated in all these reports to sit idly and see all that happen.

HE said that as the UN Secretary-General stressed that the Israeli occupation and its discriminatory practices have been violated the UN resolutions and the international law, it should not be allowed to continue without punishment.

He considered that Israeli settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and the occupied Syrian Golan is not only illegal.

But also constitute an obstacle to peace and justice and so the international community should make every possible effort to ensure the implementation of international law and UN resolutions.

He also stressed on the permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

Including East Jerusalem, and of the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan over their natural resources, calling on Israel to stop the exploitation of natural resources in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.

Including East Jerusalem, and the occupied Syrian Golan.

HE reiterated Qatar's demand for Israel to strictly comply with its obligations under international law, including the international humanitarian law. (QNA)
