The ball is in the aggressor’s court

Despite the grim circumstances and ongoing international ineffectiveness, Qatar, Egypt, and the USA persist in diplomatic consultations and communication to advance regional and global endeavours for an immediate ceasefire, the release of prisoners and detainees, and the sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid throughout the Gaza Strip. These joint efforts yesterday led to the endorsement by the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement - Hamas - to the ceasefire proposal mediated by the State of Qatar, Egypt and the USA, potentially concluding seven months of conflict in Gaza. This announcement prompted joyous celebrations in the streets of Rafah, despite the looming threat.

The Palestinian people in Gaza Strip are peace lovers and they have been exposed to genocide for the last seven months and everyone realises that these people are not aggressors, but rather victims of barbaric Israeli aggression that does not pay any attention to international laws and human values.

It continues with acts of genocide and insists on continuing the war despite the world’s praise of Hamas’ positions and its acceptance of an immediate ceasefire in accordance with the proposal presented by the mediators. Shamelessly, Israel has stated its intention to continue operations in the Gaza Strip. It also pledged to reopen a major crossing for humanitarian aid, albeit without specifying a timeline.

Not only this, but it has announced that its military instructed approximately 100,000 people to evacuate Rafah to launch its military offensive in one of the most crowded areas in the Strip.

The Gaza war has displaced over 80% of the territory’s population, with more than a million people seeking refuge in tents and overcrowded accommodations. The death toll in Gaza has tragically surpassed 34,500 individuals, as reported by local health authorities.

Many countries and peace-loving nations have welcomed Hamas’s acceptance of the ceasefire proposal and urged Israel to accept it. It is time for the Western nations that support the Israeli aggression to change positions and pressure Israel into accepting the deal.

Amid escalating regional tensions, there is growing frustration over the international community’s failure to compel relevant parties, particularly Israel, to halt the ongoing war. Achieving peace in the region hinges on addressing the Palestinian issue and realizing a two-state solution in line with the Arab Peace Initiative and relevant international resolutions. Israel’s obstructionism persists, driven by its political considerations as its Prime Minister Netanyahu’s actions undermine potential agreements and perpetuate aggression, hindering efforts to alleviate the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza.
