Ambassador: Qatar-Russia ties witnessing multidimensional growth

Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the State of Qatar H E Nurmakhmad Kholov said that the State of Qatar in recent years has achieved the goals of economic and social development that will build a society capable of overcoming all difficulties and challenges, indicating that Qatar plays a very significant role at the international and regional levels in terms of settling regional disputes by peaceful means.

In a statement on the Occasion of Qatar’s National Day, the Ambassador said that the friendly relations between the Russian Federation and the State of Qatar are evolving at a high level, as the Russian-Qatari cooperation is witnessing a dynamic, successful and multidimensional development, pointing out that the State of Qatar is the largest investor in the Russian economy among the GCC countries.

He said a working mechanism has been reached between the two countries within the framework of the joint financial and economic platform, explaining that the Russian economy has attracted Qatari investments worth $2.5bn, and other projects are being considered in sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, medicine, real estate and oil and gas.

The Russian Ambassador emphasised the mutual interest of both sides in various fields such as energy, investment, construction, industry, agriculture, tourism, culture, sports, innovation, education, youth and exchange of experiences in preparation for hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

He noted the importance of the agreements signed between Russia and Qatar, in particular the visa waiver agreement, which entered into force on February 23, 2020, as Qatari citizens can enter Russia without a visa.

He hailed the emergency and precautionary measures taken by the leadership of the State of Qatar with highest level of professionalism to limit the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. He said Qatar and Russia are among the countries that took the initiative to assist the countries that witness very difficult situation in their efforts to avoid the pandemic, and since the beginning of the spread of the COVID-19, Qatar has provided medical aid to about 78 countries around the world.

On the occasion of the National Day, Ambassador Nurmakhamad Kholov extended his congratulations to the State of Qatar’s leadership, government and people, wishing it further prosperity.
