Doha: Ooredoo yesterday awarded winners of its CSR Contest 2013, which was held during Ramadan.
The competition saw contestants pitch their ideas for community projects live on Al Rayyan TV.
Each entrant needed to submit an idea that linked to the Qatar 2030 National Vision, and the range and diversity of submissions — which included suggestions for a national comedy course to charity and environmental projects — underlined the creativity and social conscience of the people of Qatar.
The winning idea, which will be implemented by Ooredoo in the coming months, is the “Ooredoo Technology Centre”.
According to the proposal submitted by Yacoub Al Yacoub and Abdul Wahed Al Onaiza, this centre will train young people in digital media literacy and help develop new innovations to improve lives in Qatar. It aims to boost Qatar’s efforts to build a knowledge-based economy by providing a training and development facility for Qatari youth in particular. The two winners received QR10,000.
The second-placed contestant Saud Al Kuwari and the third-placed Nasser Mansour both received a prize of QR5,000.
Fatima Al Kuwari, Director, Public and Community Relations at Ooredoo, said: “The contest was a great success and showed how much people want to give back to the community. People from across Qatar submitted impressive and innovative proposals in the fields of technology, environment, sports and social development. We were delighted to see first-hand the commitment and motivation of Qatar’s diverse communities in making a difference and enriching people’s lives.”
As well as the rewards for the finalists, all the entrants received a gift of appreciation from Ooredoo, for their time and effort in taking part.
The CSR contest was launched as part of Ooredoo’s Ramadan Campaign, Alrabaa (Friends), in partnership with Al Rayyan TV. The contest has generated great enthusiasm across Qatar and has attracted a wide range of creative ideas for helping people across the community and improving lives and the environment in Qatar.
