LAHORE: Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit Pakistan later this month to lay the foundation stones of some mega projects, a senior official of the Foreign Office has said. The dates for the visit are being decided by the two sides.
An invitation to the Chinese president was extended by President Mamnoon Hussain during his visit to China in February.
The Foreign Office official said that the Chinese leader would lay the foundation stone of the Lahore-Karachi motorway section and a couple of power generation projects.
During Xi’s visit, officials of the two countries would also give final touches to the proposed Pakistan-China railway link.
China has announced investments totalling $32bn over the next seven years in various Pakistani infrastructure projects.
ISLAMABAD: The Nawaz Sharif government has decided to hold by-polls for the vacant seats if Imran Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI), follows through with its threats of its members of the National Assembly (MNAs) and members of provincial assemblies (MPAs) resigning en masse.
Official sources said here over the weekend that if PTI’s 34 MNAs submit their resignations, as hinted by some party members, then by-elections would be held on the vacated seats.
Commenting on reports that the PTI was considering resigning from the national and provincial assemblies, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq said if he received the PTI lawmakers’ resignations, he would take a decision as per the constitution.
