ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan had two secret meetings with firebrand agitationist Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Tahirul Qadri to hold negotiations on a joint strategy that was formalised through a written agreement only to be violated later, resulting in the premature separation of PTI and PAT.
Daily The News revealed yesterday based on background interviews with informed officials from both the sides that the first meeting was held in London and the second in Lahore. Both interactions were kept secret at the request of Khan.
The meeting held in London decided that an agitation campaign against the government would be launched. Qadri named it ‘Azadi March.’ Both the leaders agreed to make an announcement in this respect at a joint press conference.
