DOHA: Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) in collaboration with Ritz-Carlton yesterday hosted about 60 Syrian refugee children in an event to mark the International Day of Charity.
The event titled “Bringing their joy back” featured a series of fun-filled activities for children and speeches by scholars and experts.
Addressing the event, QRC’s Secretary-General Saleh Al Mohannadi, said the event was intended to support Syrian refugees and the internally displaced Syrians hit by the worsening humanitarian crisis in the country.
“This event aims to raise money to support Syrians and encourage the community to donate,” he said, adding that the QRC’s humanitarian services in Syria include establishment of hospitals, shelters, providing food and other basic necessities and psychological support to Syrians affected by the crisis.
He later told Al Sharq that the QRC had set up a special forum for female donors, the first of its kind in the country. The first project under this new initiative seeks to provide clothing to about 3,000 Syrian refugee children in Lebanon during the forthcoming Eid Al Adha,
The estimated cost of the project is QR550,000 with QR190 for each child.
Ritz Carlton’s General Manager Hussain Fatri, Dr Mamoun Mabeed, psychology consultant at QRC and Abdullah bin Ibrahim Al Sada, Imam of Mariam bint Abdullah mosque also spoke.
