State Audit Bureau to attend GCC meeting

Doha: Qatar’s State Audit Bureau is to participate in the 12th meeting of the chiefs of the GCC audit bureaux slated for Manama, Bahrain, on Tuesday.

Ibrahim bin Hashim Al Sada, the acting chief of the audit bureau is to lead Qatar’s delegation to the meeting which will be held for two days. 

During their meeting, they will discuss the report of the general secretariat and take note of a summary of the results of the 16th committee of the undersecretaries , endorse the recommendations to be taken therein in addition to discussing a host of topics, including the list of competition research and representation of bureaucracy in the Accounting and Auditing of the GCC countries.

They will also identify the most prominent plans and development, legislative and regulatory programmes of the audit bureaux.

The Bureau was established on April 28, 1973 as an independent government body with legal entity, directly reporting to the Emir. Its budget is annexed to the budget of the Emiri Diwan.

The president of the Bureau undertakes the responsibility to prepare the Bureau’s annual draft budget and to submit thereof to the Emir or any other regularly authorised official for ratification.

The Qatari Audit Bureau conducts independent audits of government ministries and public agencies. The bureau also makes recommendations to agencies on any changes to accounting procedures and systems.

The audit bureau aims to ensure that Qatar enjoys maximum benefits from its national wealth. 

The bureau conducts its work in a transparent manner. It holds the government accountable through careful oversight of public spending. The Bureau carries out preceding audit for projects, tenders and contracts before they are placed for consideration, put to tender or signed.
