Population declines marginally

DOHA: The population of the country based on the number of people residing within Qatar’s boundaries was marginally down to 2.151 million in June, as compared to 2.174 million in May.
Data released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics showed that in June 2014, some 354 marriage contracts and 143 divorces were recorded while the month of May witnessed 265 marriages and 83 divorces. 
In June, 1,833 babies were born compared to 1,927 in the month of May, while the number of deaths dropped to 183 in June from 199 in May. 
According to the ministry’s bulletin, the number of deaths due to traffic accidents dropped to 16 in June from 19 in May. There were 62 serious accidents and 593 cases of minor accidents. 
Khalifa City recorded the highest number of accidents at 6,915, while the North Security Department registered nine deaths caused by accidents, which was the largest number.
The average Qatari household expenditure for goods and services was QR 8,000 per month while the average expenses of non-Qatari families came to QR 2,711 approximately. 
Spending on food topped the table, comprising 16.2 percent of the monthly expenditure for Qatari families and 34.2 percent for non-Qatari families. 
The consumer price index for June was 117.7 points, a marginal decrease of 0.1 percent over May’s figure of 117.8 points. 
Cash deposits in commercial banks in the month of June totalled QR591bn, up 1 percent over QR585bn in the month of May 2014.
