Ministry bans import of several wild animals
Doha: Crocodiles, venomous snakes and tigers are among a number of wild animals whose entry into the country has been banned by the Ministry of Environment (MoE).
The animal protection department said that the Ministry has put a ban on several wild animals due to the ‘threat’ they pose to the local population that kept them as pets. A team of officials will also stay on guard at Qatari borders 24-hours to monitor the movement of wild animals into the country. Other animals in the list include scorpions, cheetahs, hyenas and wild spiders.
The Ministry has said that it is compulsory for animal-lovers to keep up-to-date health certificates and other relevant documents of their pets at all times.
Officials also said that blood samples of all animals are first tested before they are cleared for shipment into the country.
