DOHA: A young Qatari entrepreneur, Mohsin Hussain Al Shaikh (pictured), has developed a unique product named ‘Isse Pocket Cheque Printer’ which will address the hassle of filling multiple cheques with same details and also completely eliminate possibility of their subsequent rejection by banks.
The battery-run prototype, which can be easily carried out inside the pocket of a jacket or a hand purse, operates on a cutting-edge software.
Mohsin was speaking to this newspaper on the sidelines of the recently-held ‘Demo Day’ organised by Qatar Business Incubation Centre.
The smart and portable cheque printer eliminates common mistakes in formulating and filling out personal details on cheques and avoids the misplaced printing by existing printers.
Apart from individual use, the product will find wide applications, including in real estate agencies, banks and other offices as they witness the rejection of about 10 percent of circulated cheques on a daily basis.
“The product will be the first of its kind in the market, as it replaces existing technologies with a hand-held integrated screen, a small printer and scanner,” said Mohsin. “I have already got the technology registered at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, and working on the file to apply seeking international patent rights.”
He said that the idea of developing the technology came to his mind when he had to fill over 30 cheques with almost same details to buy a property, and nearly 25 percent of them were rejected due to some silly mistakes, which he eventually had to fill time and again. The product he has developed is a low fidelity prototype and shared it with potential customers. As it is one of its kind in the market, customers are willing to pay once it is produced.
Some of the other impressive business ideas showcased at the event (held at QBIC’s headquarters in Industrial Area) were ‘Prana Energy Stone’; ‘Entrepreneurs Marketing’; ‘SHOPPiN’; ‘Recycled Horse Bedding’ among others.
The ‘SHOPPiN’ is a mobile application that aims to minimise information gaps between shop owners and customers about various ongoing sales promotions in different shopping centres.
The ‘Recycled Horse Bedding’ is a business project that intends to recycle horse bedding materials to provide better bedding facility for horses in Qatar in a more cost effective and environmentally sustainable way. It also aims to provide waste management solutions to horse farms and produce organic fertiliser by using the waste.
According to the founder of the business idea, there are about 3,500 horses in Qatar and the number is still growing.
Each horse consumes about 100kg of fodder per week, so a farm size of 100 horses will need about 520 metric tonnes of fodder per year. Therefore, the size of the horse bedding and recycling market is big enough to support his project.
While ‘Prana Energy Stones’ is a dedicated website that offer a platform for trading stones that provide ‘positive energy’ to their wearer which helps achieve mental peace.
