Al Shaqab Racing’s Al Wukair made a strong impression on Monday in the seasonal debut at Maisons-Laffitte in France.

Last for the best part of the race, the colt placed a blistering acceleration allowing him to win easily the Prix Djebel (Gr3).

His jockey did not even need to use his whip.

The Prix Djebel is one of the preparatory races to the Poule d’Essai des Poulains and 2,000 Guineas. Newmarket will be the most likely option.

"Everybody hopes for something like this. But today, our aim was to bring him experience. André Fabre knew he’d lack a bit of it. In the morning, he works very well and he has had a very good preparation. His Deauville race line was very good," said Rupert Pritchard-Gordon, Manager of Al Shaqab Racing in France.

“Today, he made up lengths on the others without being asked. It was his first time on a straight line, and it was better to see a more switched off horse, with a good temperament. If everything goes well, he could run the Guineas," he added.
