DOHA: Fruit prices in the central market have increased significantly during the last few days due to high temperature and humidity.
Many traders said high heat and humidity had damaged large quantities of supplies.
One of the traders, Mohamed Ali Al Emadi, said the prices of bananas had risen sharply because the fruit cannot bear high heat.
Though its prices have risen in central market, they are still lower than those in commercial centres.
Hasan Faisal, a customer, told Al Raya that the prices are high not just because of short supply but also due to high temperature.
A Pakistani mango box is selling at QR78, Philippine pineapple box at QR86, African grapes box at QR58, Philippine banana box at QR71, American apple box at QR130, African lemon box at QR110 and African pear box at QR98 and orange box at QR48.
Traders said many importers were losing much of the quantities of fruits because of high temperature and humidity.
