ISLAMABAD: Governor of Pakistan’s populous province Muhammad Sarwar says he is “a bit frustrated with my job as it doesn’t enable me to bring smiles on the face of people” but reaffirms his plan to stay in that position.
“I am a bit frustrated as governor. There is nothing to do. I want to bring smile on the face of people,” he told The News daily in an interview published yesterday in response to rumours he was resigning.
The rumours had said Sarwar had vacated the Governor House and shifted to a newly acquired residence in Defence Housing Authority (DHA). He denied this impression saying he is still at Governor’s House but confirmed buying a bungalow in DHA.
Governor said the purchase of property should not be linked with speculations of his likely resignation, out-rightly denying this impression. However, he acknowledged the dreams that brought him to Pakistan have not come true. “I have a passion for education and health.” After 18th amendment, the Governor Office has become a ceremonial position with no special significance and “that is a reason of my frustration.”
Although he has found no role to play in the field of education and health, Governor Sarwar said it is his passion that drove him to work on the provision of clean drinking water.
The expression of governor’s frustration may be news for ordinary citizens; PML-N officials say he started sharing his thoughts shortly after assuming this office. “We considered his role in beginning as Pakistan’s high commissioner in UK,” according to a minister.
