Third Forum on Arab Tourism Security wraps up, recommends more collaboration

Doha, Qatar: The 3rd Arab Tourism Security Forum wrapped up its activities in Doha with the participation of a host Their Excellences, Arab ministers of Tourism, senior officials from leaders of tourism security, alongside several senior officials and experts operating in security and tourism in the Arab region.

In its final recommendations, the two-day event came within the events of Doha as the Arab Tourism Capital for 2023, and chiefly called for establishing action evidences for providers of tourism security in coordination and cooperation with the Arab Interior Ministers’ Council (AIMC), as well as holding training and rehabilitation workshops for workers in cybersecurity sectors, along with the mechanism of countering cybercrimes, crises and disasters.

The participants also called on all entities concerned with tourist security to share trailblazing expertise and experiences in the Arab world in crowd management, in addition to holding events through the tourist security department of Arab Tourism Organization (ATO).

The forum urged media circles with their various fields, particularly the new media to promote the code of rights and duties of tourists, calling on ATO to coordinate with the Union of Arab Banks (UAB) and the Arab Information and Communication Technologies Organization (AICTO) to propagate the culture of countering the patterns and forms of banking fraud crimes Arab tourists are expose to.

The recommendations included an appeal for the Arab nations to adopt policies that would leverage technological applications to secure tourist destinations and ensure support for tourism sustainability, in addition to urging entities concerned with tourist security in the Arab world to capitalize on the experiences of the Arab Centre for Disaster Preparedness affiliated to the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization (ARCO).

Convened under the motto: “Security and Comprehensiveness of Tourist Destinations”, the forum was held in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and AIMC and discussed an array of themes relevant to tourism industry, including infrastructure of tourist destinations through securing airports against risks, as per global specifications, and laying out Qatar’s experience utilized on a par with safety and security of fans in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 tournament, along with the risks facing tourism investments and assurance mechanism.

The participants discussed the rights and duties of travelers, media, and its role in raising awareness on tourism and cybersecurity, particularly with respect to cybercrimes and their impacts on tourists, as well as AI applications and mechanism of countering fraud crimes tourists are exposed to through credit cards.

The forum unequivocally included a session titled: Securing tourists and tourist facilities, which discussed the mechanism of countering disasters and tourist crises, in addition to laying out Arab experiences in tourist security.
