KARACHI: As many as 65 percent of Pakistanis polled said that the performance of the outgoing National Assembly during the last five years was poor.
However, 59 percent gave credit to politicians for completing the tenure of the legislature for the first time without any interference from ambitious military generals. This was revealed in a Geo Poll powered by Gallup Pakistan, released yesterday.
The survey showed that 65 per cent of people believed that the performance of the National Assembly in the last five years was bad, 16 per cent said it was good, while 19 percent were not sure.
As many as 69 percent of people said that the role of the National Assembly in solving people’s basic problems was unsuccessful, while 15 percent termed it successful. However, 16 percent were not sure.
Among the parties represented in the National Assembly, 47 percent people said the performance of the PML-N was the best, while 19 percent said the ruling PPP’s performance was the best.
However, 10 percent voted in favour of the MQM, 5 percent in support of the PML-Q, while 2 percent supported the JUI-F for its performance.
About the worst performance during the last five years in parliament, 50 percent people said the PPP had the worst performance, followed by the MQM (16 percent). However, 12 percent said the performance of the PML-N was the worst, 10 percent said that it was the PML-Q and 3 percent said that it was the JUI-F.
It is for the first time in its history that the National Assembly has completed its five-year term. Fifty nine percent people said the credit for this goes to politicians, while 34 percent gave credit to the army. One percent each gave credit to the judiciary and the public. Internews
