New Delhi: Newly-appointed Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay yesterday said the decision to stake a claim to forming government in Delhi will be taken only after consulting party members and senior leaders.
“The decision regarding government formation in Delhi will be taken after talking to all the legislators, MPs and party leaders,” Upadhyay said.
“I will comment on the issue of government formation once the consultations are over,” he added.
The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Delhi unit is a divided house over government formation in the capital which has been under president’s rule since February this year after Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal resigned as chief minister.
No party in the capital, where the assembly is under suspended animation, has staked claim so far. With three BJP legislators being elected to the Lok Sabha, the party’s strength in the 70-member house has come down to 28 from the earlier 31. A lone Akali Dal legislator is on its side.
The Congress has eight legislators in the assembly.
Meanwhile, union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said the Narendra Modi government wants to do extraordinary work in the health sector.
The minister said that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government wanted the cause of healthcare to become a “mass movement” in the country.
“Under the leadership of Narendra Modi, we want to do extraordinary work in the health sector,” said Harsh Vardhan, speaking at the inauguration.
“We want that issue of health becomes a mass movement and people could be linked with several government policies which are in the pipeline,” the minister said. IANS
