Dilip Kumar’s house to be declared heritage site

PESHAWAR: The former homes of Indian actors Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor, nestled in Peshawar’s Qissa Khwani Bazaar, will soon be declared heritage sites by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s archaeology directorate. Dr Abdul Samad, director of archaeology and museums said that the homes will be labelled heritage sites after the completion of formalities by the revenue department.
Dr Samad said the K-P directorate of culture tried to acquire Dilip Kumar’s house in 2012, but was unable to due to the price tag of Rs80m and a dispute between the current owner and one of Kumar’s relatives.

Van crash kills 12 in Pakistani Kashmir

MUZAFFARABAD: A passenger van plunged into a ravine in Pakistan-administered Kashmir yesterday, killing at least 12 people and wounding 14 others, police said.
The accident occurred in Arja area, 65km east of Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-administered Kashmir. “The 24-seater van was coming to Rawalpindi from Bagh area when it plunged into a ravine at Arja, killing 12 people including women and wounding 14 others,” senior local police official Riaz Abbasi said.

Moderate quake strikes Afghanistan

KABUL: A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck northern Afghanistan late yesterday, the US Geological Survey said.
The agency said the quake hit at 8:53 pm (1623 GMT) at a depth of 32km. The epicentre was 52 kilometres east-southeast of the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, capital of Balkh province, USGS said. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
