Doha: Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani received today the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs of Jordan HE Dr. Ayman Al Safadi, on the occasion of his visit to the country.
During the meeting, they reviewed the bilateral cooperation relations between the two countries, especially in the economic, trade, and investment fields, and discussed the latest Arab, regional, and international developments of common interest, especially efforts to resolve the Yemeni and Libyan crises, support stability in Lebanon, and reach a political solution to the crisis in Syria in accordance with Security Council Resolution No. 2254.
During the meeting, the two sides agreed to convene the shared joint higher committee before the end of this year to enhance cooperation in a number of areas of common interest.
The two parties praised the growth in economic cooperation between the State of Qatar and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and affirmed the continuation of work on its development in the common interest of the two countries.
They also affirmed the continuation of coordination on Arab, Islamic, regional, and international issues of common interest, especially in the occupied Palestinian territories, and the need to bring calm and re-launch serious and effective negotiations to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution and in accordance with the approved terms of reference.
They stressed the need to stop all illegal Israeli measures that undermine the two-state solution, as it is the only way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace.
His Excellency the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, and His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs of Jordan, warned of the consequences of the deterioration, the absence of political prospects, the economic pressures in the occupied Palestinian territories, Israel's continued construction and expansion of settlements, the confiscation of Palestinian lands and their deportation from their homes, and the military operations against Palestinian cities.
They also stressed the need for Israel to respect the historical and legal status quo in the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and to stop all steps aimed at changing this situation, and the importance of the role of the historical Jordanian guardianship in protecting the sanctities, and the need to achieve reconciliation and Palestinian national unity.
In this context, HE Dr. Ayman Al Safadi stressed the importance of the role played by the State of Qatar, and the support it provides to the Palestinian citizens in Gaza, and to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
