Islamabad: Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is scheduled to pay a two-day official visit to Pakistan from Tuesday. The visit is part of a tour that will also take him to Tajikistan, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said yesterday. The visit is in response to an invitation Pakistan Premier Nawaz Sharif. Shinawatra will have a meeting with Sharif to discuss ways to strengthen trade and investment relations. Three documents are expected to be signed — an agreement on mutual exemption of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports, memorandum of understanding on the establishment of a joint trade committee, and MoU on the establishment of a joint business council. The official visit to Pakistan by the Thai premier is the first in 11 years.
Chairlift plan revived
ISLAMABAD: City managers yesterday took a step towards reviving a decade-old plan to install a chairlift in the Margalla Hills and decided to engage an international consultant to evaluate the project. The Capital Development Authority will contact international consultancies for technical and financial studies. It has identified two sites for chairlifts.
One will start from Marghazar Zoo at the foothills of the Margallas to Makhiala Peak near Pir Sohawa village, with a brief stopover at Daman-e-Koh.
The other will start from Lakeview Park.
Airport security stepped up
Islamabad: Authorities stepped up security yesterday at Benazir International Airport following terror threats. A large number of security personnel checked luggage while police dogs looked for explosives in the parking lot.
