​New chief of privatisation commission

ISLAMABAD: The government of Pakistan yesterday issued the notification for appointing Muhammad Zubair as Chairman of Privatisation Commission.
“Yes, notification regarding my appointment has been issued,” Muhammad Zubair confirmed yesterday. The newly appointed chairman assumed his charge yesterday afternoon.
The portfolio of privatisation minister was taken back from Khurram Dastgir Khan last week and now he is looking after Ministry of Commerce. Earlier, Muhammad Zubair was appointed as Chairman Board of Investment and now additional portfolio of privatisation was also handed over to him.
Evening shift in schools to end
ISLAMABAD: Four committees constituted for reforms in education sector submitted their recommendations to the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) yesterday, suggesting steps to abolish evening shift in federal schools and colleges.
They also suggested to bring about uniformity in education system and change the criteria for teachers’ appointment, it has been learnt.
The committees were constituted on the instructions of Secretary CADD in October to sort out issues of the educational institutions working under Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), an ancillary department of CADD.
Committees were instructed to give proposals for uniformity in the education system, abolishment of evening shifts, key performance indicators and change in recruitment criteria.
Gas plan keeps 3m employed
LAHORE: Some three million textile workers will continue to work during the next three months due to the federal government’s decision to supply 100 million cubic feet of gas per day (mmcfd) to the textile industry in Punjab, said All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) Punjab Chairman SM Tanveer.
In previous years, the Punjab-based textile industry would have had no option but to lay off workers during three months of winter due to suspension of gas supply, he said at a press conference yesterday.
Alert over Lahore fog
ISLAMABAD: City traffic police of Lahore and the National Highway and Motorway police have issued advisory for motorists in view of the dense fog that descended upon the province on Tuesday, bringing the visibility down to dangerously low levels.
The fog is forecast to linger for at least two weeks.
City Traffic Officer Sohail Chaudhary advised commuters and travellers to use fog lights and activate hazard lights while driving.
