Doha: The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday received a phone call from the United Nations Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon, who thanked him for the constructive role played by Qatar to resolve the crisis in Libya by seeking to bridge the gap in views between conflicting parties and urging them to reach a peaceful solution to achieve security, stability and unity of the Libyan people and territory. Ban also thanked the Emir for Qatar’s support to efforts of the UN special envoy to Libya. The Emir and Ban also discussed latest regional developments.
Qatar-Kenya ties reviewed
DOHA: The Minister of Economy and Commerce H E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani yesterday met Kenyan Minister of Industrialisation and Enterprise Development, Adan Mohamed, and his delegation and discussed issues of common concern.
They also discussed means of enhancing relations and cooperation, especially in the economic, trade and investment areas. Last year, Qatar and Kenya signed agreements on trade, investment and technical cooperation, and on promotion and protection of mutual investments. In 2013, bilateral trade volume reached about QR585m.
Prince Charles arriving on Feb 12
DOHA: Prince Charles of Wales will visit Qatar on February 12 as part of his official visit to five states in the region.
He will hold talks with the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
Prince Charles made five official visits to Qatar in 1986, 1997, 2007, 2013 and 2014.
At the request of Her Majesty’s Government, the six-day tour from February 7 will take him to Jordan (February 7-8), Kuwait (February 9), Saudi Arabia (February 10-11) and then Qatar and the UAE (February 12).
Prince Charles’ return to the region one year after his last visit demonstrates the importance Her Majesty’s Government places on its association with key partners in the region.
This association is underpinned by long-standing and respectful relationships between the British Royal Family and the ruling families in the Gulf.
19,600 voters on initial CMC list
DOHA: An initial list of over 19,600 voters has been issued by the supervisory committee for the fifth Central Municipal Council (CMC) election due this May.
The panel announced the voter list for each of the 29 CMC constituencies. Deletion and addition of names continue until February 5, the committee said in a statement yesterday.
It urged voters who have registered personally or through ‘Metrash2’ to ensure their names are on the list.
