DOHA: Several porta cabins encroaching on state properties have been removed in many civic areas, officials have said.
Inspectors from the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning, accompanied by police, went to Umm Lekhba and Al Markhiya and removed wooden porta cabins installed on public properties, according to the local Arabic daily Al Watan. They were also accompanied by a team from the Department of Machinery and Equipment to help in the campaign.
The owners of the cabins will be fined and will also have to pay the expenses incurred on removing the cabins. Authorities also issued notices to several violators to remove their cabins.
The Umm Salal Municipality said it removed cabins during an inspection campaign carried out with police and the department.
Last November, officials pasted notices on many old villas in Doha which had encroached on government land. The ‘building/excavation violation notice’ asked the owners to contact the municipality within 24 hours over the “illegal encroachment of perimeter wall” violations.
The ministry, meanwhile, provided training for inspectors through workshops, lectures and field trips in several areas, covering types of violations and steps inspectors must take to notify and fine violators.
