Community policing, the Sudan experience

DOHA: A workshop being held by the Community Policing Department at the Ministry of Interior is focusing on the Sudanese experience in community policing.
Lt Col Ahmad Zayed Al Mohannadi, Director of Community Policing Department, opened the workshop at the Civil Defence officers’ club on Sunday.
Officers from Civil Defence, Drugs Enforcement Administration, Al Fazaa and Traffic Department are participating in the event titled “community policing and communication with local communities”.
Capt Abdul Aziz Muhammad Al Rabeea and Capt Ibrahim Muhammad Ibrahim Mabyuo from the Ministry of Interior of Sudan gave lectures at the workshop. Al Mohannadi said that the workshop is intended to exchange experiences of Sudan Interior Ministry in community policing that helped a lot to establish relations between police and community members.
Capt Abdul Aziz Al Rabeea said that community policing in Sudan is known as Community and Popular Police (CPP) that had many achievements in dealing with people. Their initiatives had helped the police force win the support of public.
The three-day workshop will see presentations on Sudanese concept of community policing, major projects of Sudanese CPP, working methods of CPP, security and community groups in residential neighbourhoods, comprehensive security and method of internal coordination with police and use of values in attracting community members and building relationships with the local community.
