Islamabad: Pakistan and Armenia announced the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Associated Press of Pakistan said that Pakistani Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar exchanged an official joint statement with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit currently hosted by China in Tianjin.
Under the joint statement, Pakistan and Armenia will establish diplomatic relations. Both sides affirmed their commitment to the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter and discussed possible avenues of cooperation, including in the economy, education, culture, and tourism.
The Foreign Ministers of Pakistan and Armenia affirmed their desire to work closely with each other in bilateral and multilateral fora to achieve their shared goals of peace, progress, and prosperity for the people of their two countries.
Armenpress News Agency said that the governments of Armenia and Pakistan agreed to exchange representatives and provide necessary assistance to each other in accordance with the 1961 Convention on Diplomatic Relations, with the aim of establishing diplomatic relations on the basis of reciprocity, in accordance with the Vienna Convention and customary international practice.
