DOHA: Thirty-five aircraft in the form of tropical birds, insects, wild animals, old cars and planes will entertain hundreds of spectators at the first Red Bull Flugtag in Qatar tomorrow at Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) Park.
Each aircraft will be introduced with an entertaining show performed by its crew before the Red Bull Flugtag: launching flying machines from a purpose-built platform before landing in the water.
Every team comprises a pilot and three assistants to be evaluated by a panel of five judges based on three major criteria, including creativity of the craft, showmanship and flying distance, provided that all aircraft are exclusively human-powered.
The custom-designed platform was carefully checked for safety measures and correct installation of safety nets for the teams to make their six-metre high launch and try to break the 78.6m flying distance record before landing in the water.
MIA Park and MIA parking areas will be closed for the day, so spectators and visitors to the museum are urged to park in the dedicated parking lots in three locations around the city: close to the Ministry of Interior, Qatar Sports Club and the Airport/Airport Road.
A free shuttle bus service will be available to take the public to and from the event location (10am-7pm). No parking will be available at the event area.
Doors open at 11am, and the first flight is at 1pm.
