DOHA: A Criminal Court has sentenced a young GCC national to a year and three months in jail and fined her QR18,000 for fighting with a police officer, insulting a taxi driver and disturbing others while in a drunken state.
The court sentenced her in absentia to 15 months in jail and fined her QR10,000 for fighting with a police officer on duty, imposed a QR5,000 fine for disturbing people after consuming liquor, and a QR3,000 fine for abusing a taxi driver.
The convict left the country before the trial began. A summons was sent to her recent address but she did not appear in the Court,  Al Raya reported.
Details of the case suggest that the convict, after consuming some alcohol in a hotel, took a cab. She differed with the driver on the fare and began abusing him. The cab driver called Al Fazaa personnel, whose car was parked nearby. The two police officers in the patrol vehicle approached the woman.
She was drunk and tried to run away, at which one of the police officers made her sit in the back of the taxi and took the front seat to take her to a police station. On the way, the woman started fighting with the officer.
The convict admitted during questioning by the Public Prosecution that she was drunk but denied fighting with the police officer.THE PENINSULA
