Food baskets ready for distribution in 15 governorates of Yemen.

Doha: As part of its campaign ‘Yemen, We Are with You,’ Qatar Charity (QC) has implemented a project to distribute food baskets to people and families affected or displaced by the conflict in Yemen.
The project covered 15 governorates and helped 6,050 families, at a cost of QR2m.
Ibrahim Ali Abdullah, Director, Relief Department, QC, said, “Implementation of the project extends our brotherly and humanitarian duty towards the affected people of Yemen suffering from the conflict.
“It is also to help make up the food shortage. I thank all Qatari and local good-doers who donated through the radio show Tafrig Korbah (Relieve the Plight) aired during Ramadan, in cooperation with Quran Radio in Doha.
“I also thank Quran Radio for constant support and help. QC is implementing more projects in the near future.”
Food baskets were distributed in cooperation with Charitable Society for Social Welfare last month, in Amanat Al Asmeh, Abyan, Shabwah, Sa’da, Sana’a, Ibb, Hodeda, Hajjah, Al Bayda’, Al Mahwit, Dhmar, Taiz, Hadramaut (Al Mukalla, Al Wadi), and Dhale.
The baskets, sufficient to last a month, contained 50kg of flour, 10kg of sugar, 10kg of rice, 5 litres of cooking oil, powder milk, macaroni, canned legumes, and other items. The project made beneficiaries and local management boards in the governorates happy.
Abdulaziz Zahra, Deputy, Amanat Al Asmeh, said, “We appreciate this humanitarian campaign. Many affected Yemenis from various governorates benefited, especially those in Amanat Al Asmeh. It is neither the first nor the last project QC implements. We hope other humanitarian organisations follow QC, which has been very supporting.”
Mukhtar Hassan, member of the local council of Taiz governorate attended the inauguration of the campaign and said: “I am happy with this urgent campaign for the affected people of Taiz. But the governorate needs more help. I thank philanthropists of Qatar and QC for everything they have done.”
About 130,000 people have benefited from the campaign since the crisis started until the end of May. QC’s relief operations for the Yemeni people included healthcare, food, water, shelter and repairs. Aid was delivered to eight governorates — Sana’a, Aden, Ma’rib, Hadramaut, Hajjah, Hodeda, Dhale and Taiz.
It included 17,300 food baskets, 80 tonnes of flour and 180 tonnes of other food distributed to the governorates.
Three kitchens were prepared and equipped with foodstuff to provide daily fresh meals for 1,000 people.
Hospitals in Aden, Ma’rib and Taiz were supplied with equipment, 100 first aid bags, medications and medical disposables.
Eight 1,000-litre water tanks were distributed in Aden, along with hundreds of mattresses and blankets and Aden Municipality was cleaned up. When the crisis started, QC appealed for help to provide 1,260,000 people with food and medications.
After appeal and as a first step, it launched the campaign to raise QR36.5m ($10m) to urgently deliver aid.
QC also supervised distribution of planeloads of aid Qatar sent to Yemen. It was delivered through an air bridge from Doha to Djibouti–Ambouli International Airport following directives of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Four planeloads of 240 tonnes aid were delivered in two days.
