Business leaders hail decision to boost private sector

DOHA: Qatar’s key private sector players and the business community have hailed the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s announcements extending unlimited support to the country’s private sector.
Qatar Chamber, a representative body of the country’s private sector, wholeheartedly welcomed the announcement. “The Emir’s Advisory Council announcement is a big boost to the country’s private sector. In fact, the speech can be seen as a roadmap to the development of the country’s future plans,” Sheikh Khalifa bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, Chairman, Qatar Chamber, said.
The country’s business community wholeheartedly welcomes the decision to discourage public sector companies from competing with the private sector. The landmark decision is in line with the government’s declared policy to help private sector play bigger role in the local economy. The decision to ask the public sector companies to outsource some of their key businesses to private sector is also encouraging.
The Emir’s Tuesday speech confirms the fact that the private sector is the main partner in the development of local economy. The directives given to top authorities to chart out a realistic time schedules to resolve the problems in the logistic sector and warehouses is evident that the government means business, he said.
Ali Abdul Latif Al Missned, board member, Qatar Chamber, said, “The announcement will help stimulate the country’s private companies in a big way. The speech addressed almost all the key issues being faced by the private sector. The decisions regarding the allotment of industrial lands, decision to sort out the issues related to storage facilities and the development of economic zones are encouraging news for the private sector.”
Sheikh Hamad bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Thani, another board member of Qatar Chamber, said that the speech addressed key concerns of the country’s private sector. “The speech confirms the government has taken a series of steps to improve the business environment in the country,” he said.
Sheikh Hamad called for the private sector to get ready for shouldering the responsibility and take advantage of the huge opportunities available in the country, in the context of the Emir’s decision to support the private sector.
