Doha, Qatar: The Protection and Social Rehabilitation Center (Aman), one of the centers operating under the Qatar Foundation FOR Social Work, is participating in the 35th edition of the Doha International Book Fair, currently taking place at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center from May 14 to 23, 2026.
Aman’s participation comes through its awareness initiative titled “My Book, My Friend,” which features a dedicated vending machine offering books and children’s stories in the children’s section of the exhibition. The initiative aims to support the center’s strategic objectives by promoting awareness and education among children while strengthening community partnerships with various external entities.
In this context, Fadhl Al Kaabi, Acting Executive Director of Aman, emphasised the center’s commitment to participating annually in the Doha International Book Fair through the “My Book, My Friend” initiative. He noted that the initiative seeks to enhance community awareness and foster a culture of reading among children and families through innovative and interactive approaches that contribute to the intellectual and behavioural development of children while reinforcing concepts of psychological and social protection and safety.
Al Kaabi explained that the initiative encourages children and young people to develop reading habits and strengthen their intellectual and cognitive skills within a safe and supportive environment. He added that the initiative aims to nourish children’s minds with valuable information and meaningful stories while reducing excessive reliance on electronic games.
He further stated that the book vending machines have been distributed across key locations frequented by children throughout Qatar, including shopping malls near play areas, cinemas, public parks, and pediatric clinics.
The “My Book, My Friend” initiative has witnessed strong engagement from visitors and children at the exhibition, where participants were introduced to the initiative’s core message highlighting the importance of reading in shaping children’s personalities and promoting family safety values and positive communication within households. Visitors were also introduced to Aman’s services and awareness programmes dedicated to women and children.
The Aman works to promote awareness and education on the protection and rehabilitation of women and children in Qatar. The center was founded with the aim of protecting and rehabilitating women and child victims of violence and family disintegration and reintegrating them into society.
Aman’s participation in the book fair reflects its mission to invest in awareness and knowledge as essential tools for prevention and protection, while strengthening the role of families in raising an informed and educated generation capable of addressing various social challenges.
