Doha, Qatar: The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), in cooperation with the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies, organised an introductory meeting on a research project titled “Institutional Sustainability from a Human Rights Perspective in Public Institutions.”

The event witnessed broad participation from representatives of ministries, authorities, public institutions, the private sector, and civil society organizations in the country. The meeting was organised as part of the NHRC’s mandate in conducting studies and research, promoting a culture of human rights, raising awareness about them, and supporting the development of institutional policies and practices aligned with human rights principles.

The event aimed to introduce the study project, its objectives, methodology, and research tools, in addition to explaining the mechanisms for completing the two questionnaires prepared for the study, one targeting public institutions and the other directed at employees and staff working within them. The meeting also sought to clarify the role of institutions in supporting the implementation of the study and facilitating participation, thereby ensuring data accuracy and the quality of outcomes.

Vice Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari stated that the study is based on a comprehensive concept of institutional sustainability that links institutional performance efficiency and the optimal use of resources with good governance, transparency, accountability, institutional justice, and respect for human rights in the workplace.

He noted that the study addresses four main dimensions: environmental sustainability, social sustainability, economic sustainability, and institutional sustainability and governance.

Al Kuwari added that through this study, the NHRC seeks to build a clearer picture of the current state of institutional sustainability in government ministries, authorities, public institutions, and the private sector, while identifying strengths and areas requiring development. This, he said, would support improving institutional performance and enhancing governance and public services on foundations of justice, transparency, and sustainability.

For his part, Dean of the School of Economics, Administration and Public Policy at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies Dr. Ayhab Saad, said that institutional sustainability has become one of the key strategic pillars in developing the government sector and enhancing the ability of public organizations to adapt to rapid transformations and changes.

He added that the importance of the study lies in being a national scientific effort aimed at providing data and insights that support decision-makers and contribute to the development of institutional policies and practices in accordance with the best international standards.
