Arab meet recognises Qatar’s reforms to improve workers’ conditions

Doha: The final statement of the 48th Arab Labour Conference commended the labour reforms taken by the State of Qatar to protect and improve workers’ conditions and guarantee their rights and lauded the large -scale legislative and technological development as well.

The final statement was endorsed by representatives of the delegations of the three labour parties, “governments, employers, and workers”, at the final session held in Cairo yesterday.

The Conference stressed that organising the World Cup in Qatar, which can be named “the Arab World Cup” is a cause for pride for the entire Arab world, wishing Qatar’s success in hosting World Cup 2022.

The Arab labour ministers, representatives of trade unions and representatives of employers “participating in the Arab Labour Conference” valued the efforts made by Qatar over the past years to improve the conditions of workers in Qatar by adopting a series of laws, regulations and legislation that would protect workers and strike a balance between production parties.

Fayez Al Mutairi, Director-General of the Arab Labour Organization, congratulated Qatar on hosting FIFA World Cup 2022, and also congratulated Egypt for hosting the Climate Change Conference 2022 (COP 27) thanking the participating delegations for re-granting and renewing their confidence in him for another term as Director-General of the Conference.

The activities of the Conference was concluded with the participation of a high-level delegation from Qatar headed by Minister of Labour H E Dr. Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri and with the participation of 21 Arab countries.

In the final statement, the conference recommended the development of digital strategies in the Arab world, through the establishment of an infrastructure that conforms to digital transformations, the creation of highly professional training on digital jobs, as well as the creation of scientific research institutions that keep pace with the rapid technological developments.

It has also recommended for mapping of marketing policy to keep pace with the digital transformation, and the formulation of implementable initiatives, in parallel with applying an effective system to improve the quality of production and raise its rates, as well as adopting ambitious plans to hone the digital talents in the Arab world, create thinking and creative generations, as well as to provide training programs to promote the spirit of innovation, in a way that contributes to providing a workforce that can deal with modern digital transformations.
