Villagers wade through floodwaters as they evacuate their homes in Sadat Wala near Multan. Floods triggered by monsoon rains have killed 96 people across Pakistan in the past two weeks and affected nearly 90,000, officials said.
ISLAMABAD: The heavy floods coupled with relentless downpour across various parts of the country wreaked havoc, particularly in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as scores of people perished and a number of villages submerged.
As many as 26 villages of both Daska and Sambrial tehsils were inundated in Sialkot due to flooding in Nullah Aik near Saahowala- Bhopalwala as flood water overflew from the banks, largely owing to ongoing fresh spell of heavy rains in Sialkot region.
According to the senior officials of Sialkot Irrigation Department, about four to five feet high flood water was standing there and 26 villages were inundated.
These included Bhopalwala, Aadamkey, Lodhikey Cheema, Warsaalkey, Puraaney Key, Choohr Chak, Umer Key, Passiya, Veeram Key, Gadiyaala East, Gadiyaala West, Wassankey and Taajo Key Cheema.
Flooding damaged standing crops on hundreds of acres in Daska and Sambrial tehsils here. District Officer (Coordination) Sialkot Malik Abid Hussain Awan said that there was a high level flood in Nullah Aik with 22000 cusecs flow near Oora-Sialkot here yesterday. The water level was continuously rising.
On the other hand, as many as 62 villages in Pasrur, Zafarwal and Qila Ahmedabad areas, remain submerged due to another major spate in flooded Naullah Dek near Chahoor-Pasrur on Wednesday.
DCO Sialkot Iftikhar Ali Sahu was supervising rescue activities of district administration, Civil Defence and Rescue 1122 workers in the flood hit areas of Pasrur region tehsil. A 12-year-old Khurram drowned in Nullah Bhed near Model Town locality here as Nullah in high flood.
Khurram, was riding a cycle on the bank of Nullah when he slipped and drowned. The search for his body was in progress.
Ten villages of Gujranwala submerged: The floodwater of Nullah Palkhu inundated 10 villages of Wazirabad sub-division on Friday.
Reportedly, two youngsters of Lurewala were swept away in the floodwater and their search was in progress. River Chenab in high level flood: River Chenab is in high level flood at Head Khanki.
Water flow has been recorded 40,5000 cusecs at Head Khanki while 25,6000 cusecs water flow is passing through Head Qadir Abad and 2,32,000 cusecs flood water is flowing at Head Marala.
Sources in the Irrigation Department said Nari stream of Sibbi was facing flood like situation as 35,000 cusecs water flow was passing through Nari headworks and 8000 cusecs at Tali stream.
